I am legend free book5/21/2023 It has a real "Night of the Living Dead" feel that may even have inspired the film. This novel has a real claustrophobic feel about it as we come to know and empathise with the isolation of the stories protagonist Robert Neville. This is part of the science fiction masterworks series and it is easy to see why as it is a truly marvellous example of its genre. Indeed readers of such authors will see King's "The Stand", Koontz's "Phantoms" and Herbert's "48" clearly stem from this particular novel. Matheson is an author who has inspired horror writers as King, Koontz and Herbert. "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson is an accomplished post-apocalyptic novel made all the more impressive by the fact it was first published back in 1954. Isolated and alone in a world of vampires he continues his nightly routine of Beethoven and alcohol until daylight comes when he can search the town in safety and purge it of a just a few of his tormentors. Both he knows and they know he is probably the last human alive. "Scared", mocks his old friend Ben Cortman. "Come out Robert we have something to show you", the women say. Night after night, they torment and tease him. Robert Neville can hear them outside once again. It's a groundbreaking novel and a must read for any fans of the genre, despite some superficial characterisation among the minor cast. Summary: Part of the Millennium SF Masterworks series, I Am Legend is the inspiration for many subsequent books and films.

Amy and isabelle by elizabeth strout5/21/2023 As she does so, she reveals not only her deep affection for her characters, both serious and comic, but her profound wisdom about the human condition in general. Keeping Isabelle and Amy as the main focus of her sharp, sympathetic eye, Elizabeth Strout attends to them all. This conflict is surrounded by other large and small dramas in the town of Shirley Falls: a teenage pregnancy, a UFO sighting, a missing child, and the trials of Fat Bev, the community's enormous (and enormously funny and compassionate) peacemaker and amateur medical consultant. Amy withdraws, too, and mother and daughter eat, sleep, and even work side by side but remain at a vast, seemingly unbridgeable distance from each other. In a fury, she lashes out at her daughter's beauty and then retreats into outraged silence. When discovered, this emotional and physical trespass brings disgrace to Amy's mother, Isabelle, and intensifies the shame she feels about her own past. Amy Goodrow, a shy high school student in a small mill town, falls in love with her math teacher, and together they cross the line between understandable fantasy and disturbing reality. With compassion, humor, and striking insight, Amy and Isabelle explores the secrets of sexuality that jeopardize the love between a mother and her daughter.

Cola Cola Jazz by Kangni Alem5/21/2023 Much of the novel focuses on the sexual experiences of the half-sisters. To a constant background of music – zouk, madiaba, smurf, makupa, and above all mezoff – Héloïse and Parisette, the so-called “Blanco” and “Blacko”, begin with clearly separate points of view delineated in alternating chapters, but slowly begin to merge into one another. But he’s mysteriously absent from home, and instead she finds herself greeted by Parisette, who is making herself over in the guise of a war widow named Dame Dragonfly to attempt to claim her pension before the real widow can get to the office. Héloïse is the daughter of a Frenchwoman who has come to TiBrava to meet her father. Set in a lightly fictionalised version of contemporary Togo, Cola Cola Jazz is the story of two dizzyingly beautiful half-sisters meeting for the first time as adults and becoming enchanted by each other.

World records 20235/20/2023 It took a lot of planning and a lot of skill to beat the previous record.” “That’s 14 to 15 feet (4.2 to 4.6 meters) over the farthest throw we ever did. “We hope this record stands for quite a while - 290 feet (88 meters) is unreal,” Jensen said in the release. The engineers put their final design to the test on December 2, 2022, in Crown Point, Indiana, where the record was achieved on Ruble’s third throw. The feat required months of effort, as the team put in nearly 500 hours of studying origami and aerodynamics to create and test multiple prototypes. The trio are recent graduates who studied aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Ruble worked alongside Garrett Jensen, a strength engineer also with Boeing, and aerospace engineer Nathaniel Erickson. If all the different opinions have equal influence, the general will be the same as the will of all. Rousseau distinguishes between the "will of all" - the sum of all competing opinions within a society - and the general will. However, the deliberations of the people do not always express the general will. The general will is always right, and always promotes public utility. In reality, he believes, these parts are subordinate to the general will and merely put into effect the interests of the community. Rousseau complains about political theorists who divide sovereignty into different parts, such as legislative and executive power. Sovereignty is also indivisible: the will either reflects the interests of all citizens, or it does not. Thus, sovereignty is inalienable, and the sovereign cannot be represented by anything other than itself. A private individual may temporarily have the same interests as the general will, but will not share the community's interests in all circumstances. Only the general will can direct the forces of the community toward the common good.

The Duke in My Bed by Amelia Grey5/20/2023 “I think you were thinking of your own well-being and not theirs.” A puppet show will be much better for them than riding cramped in this carriage for an hour with you and me.” He will treat them as if they were his own grandchildren. I wouldn’t leave them if I had any fears for their well-being or safety. “They are fine, and Seaton is not a stranger. “Still, I’m not at all sure I’m comfortable leaving my sisters with strangers.” “True, Your Grace,” she said in a good-natured voice as she turned and waved to the girls once more. “If only you were half so frightened of me as you seem to think Miss Lillian is, that would be wonderful.” “If I were her, I’d be afraid to cry in front of someone with such an authoritative manner as you.”īray grinned confidently. “Well, whatever I said or however roughly I lifted her from the carriage and set her on her feet, it must have worked. I don’t think I ever heard him raise his voice in anger at any of us, and he surely never lifted any of us from the carriage when we didn’t do what he commanded.”īray looked behind him again. “Just as no doubt you learned your gentle and loving nature from your father.” Bray paused. “You know this from experience, I assume.” “I don’t believe I was rough-in fact, I made sure I handled her gently-but sometimes adults have to be stern with children. Bray looked behind him at the girls, and then back to Miss Prim. |
